Hey I was thinking about joining this BJJ gym around my house and was wondering about the guys lineage as far as who thought who.

As far as I have it is

Roy Harris > Richard North

So i'm trying to figure out who thought Roy Harris and so forth.

The link to the gym is www.southbayjiujitsuclub.com

the guy says he's from the roy harris jiujitsu network.

here's roy harris' website:

www.royharris.com

Any help would be appreciated.

I found a very long pasted story attributed to Roy Harris. It's a good read and has a lot of info about BJJ politics. I can't know how true it is though. But in Brazil it is a rule that you can't train at two places without permission from your instructor.

A small exerpt from that story:

"With Rickson, it was a matter of respect.
One day, Rickson and I were talking in his office. I told him I was taking private lessons with Nelson Monteiro. Right in the middle of my sentence, he got up out of his chair and walked out of his office. He never spoke to me again."

And another about receiving his black belt:

"Professor [Joe] Moreira promoted me to purple belt in 1994, brown belt in 1996, first degree black belt in 1998 and second degree black belt in 2001."
