Most ppl like me must have some sort of MA background before we got MMA all over us in 1991.

My first MA was Kyokushinkai Karate, only did this for 1 year bc my parents weren't eager to transport me overthere every two day in the week...

Then I started with TKD, this MA has had the most influence in my style of fighting.

I trained TDK for almost over 8 years.

I stopped with TKD bc I wanted to do more then only kicking, and discovered Muaythai on tv and wanted to train muaythai.

So I did train thai-kickboxing for 3years.

Now I'm working and didn't do any MA or MMA yet.

I fucking miss it but I often train at my house from while to while.

I will get back if I find me a good sport that doesn't effect my job.

a japanese style of jujutsu called seibukan jujutusu.

its a mix of traditional and modern with some weapon forms and disarming, in addition to regular jujutsu stuff like wristlocks, pressure points, throws escapes, etc.

also did shotokan karate for a few months, but it got in the way of jujutsu.

Did Kaju Kenpo as a kid as well as ShotoKan Karate and Aikido. I was also the kid with the ninja suit grappling hook, sword, shurikens, tabi boots ECT.

Have also study Ba Gua, Shingi, Sun and Yang style Tai Chi, Calle Escrima stick fighting, and Southern Mantis Kung Fu all for short periods of time.

I have about 12 years in Wing Chun Gung Fu and now started training Brazilian Jui Jitsu.

I did about 6 years of Shito Ryu Karate as a kid. Didn't do much for me in respect to practical application, but even though the strikes sucked it did teach me to put power into them. I really learned to slam my hip into kicks and punches, and I think it's aided my striking power.

i did tkd for a 1yr and 1/2. i quit because i never used it on the streets and started boxing and weightlifting. i started grappling in the army, kept up my boxing and started taking wing chun to get a taste of traditional ma. once i got out of the army in 2003 i started kickboxing and started back my grappling around may of 05'.

Kickboxing for 3 years
Jiu jitsu for 2
MMA for the last 5

Kickboxing gave me some flexibility, kicking & basic punching & seperated me from a lot of my income through fees for training & grading.

Jiu jitsu was like a study in an ancient artform; nice but not very practical & useless in my first MMA fight.

MMA - love it. Enjoy the competition, love the level of 'contact' even when I get battered. Love the fact that I need to maintain/build conditioning outside of the skill training.

I've been involved in Tae Kwon Do since I could walk it seems lol. But mainly cause my Grandfather, Father, Uncle, and a few other family members before me all trained in it and teach. I've reached the rank of 2nd Dan, but have since not trained hard enough to get higher up.

I've tried Hapkido and Judo but never really stuck them through, I plan on getting into BJJ if I can find a good school around me.

Started out with a summer of kung-fu when I was 7. Not my thing, so I did TKD through 2nd degree black.

Discovered aikido five years ago and have been doing that primarily, but a relocation put me near a good Muay Thai/MMA gym. Been doing that for about three years and have come along well. I do manage to go back to the aikido dojo a few times a month to maintain my training, but my daily training is the MT/MMA.

Good luck in your first fight man.

I've taken Taekwondo for 10 years, technically 12 but I haven't been going as often in the last 2 years. I've been busy with other stuff and been focusing a lot more on weight training.

I've been wanting to start Muay Thai or Sambo but haven't got down to it yet.

And for those who say Taekwondo isn't useful in a street fight... that's a myth. It's very beneficial, especially if your opponent doesn't have a wrestling or grappling background.

I watch a lot of DVDs and grapple on a tarp in my backyard... very little formal training, a little JJ, a little MT, a little Wrestling, a little boxing... sucks being in a small town with no real gyms to train at, learned most in school or when I was younger

I am 19 right now. I started wrestling when I was 10 and got to be pretty good. I could have easily continued in college but not on the D-1 level (I go to Penn State if you couldn't figure that out). When I graduated, I started shotokan karate which lead me to full contact kickboxing and sub-grappling.

My instructor teaches a bastardized version of shotokan which is essentially a mixture of whatever works and is practical. I currently hold a green belt.

Are Silat Mubai and Silat Tarab other forms of Pencak Silat? When I was in Indonesia I tried to check out some classes but wasn't able to find any.

Are Silat Mubai and Silat Tarab other forms of Pencak Silat? When I was in Indonesia I tried to check out some classes but wasn't able to find any.

here is the description from our parent-group's website, it is the easiest way to describe it (Silat Mubai does not exist anymore-it was split in to Tarab & Sharaf, which is why I do not list it as something that I teach):

Pencak Silat Sharaf, is a modern system of combatives developed by Ustaz Hussein Udom, an internationally respected combatives trainer and published author. The system is based on four primary sources of traditional Muslim Fighting Arts and Warrior culture.

1. Ottoman Military Arts
2. Silat War Arts of the Malay Archipelago
3. Hui Chinese Fighting Arts
4. Research, Development, and Combative Experience

The curriculum of Silat Sharaf is separated into inner (batin) and outer (zahir) elements, each with their own course of study. The outer elements develop proficiency in armed and unarmed combat in the close quarter and extreme close quarter fighting ranges. Practical concealed carry weapons like knives and guns are primary tools while more classical weapons like sword, garrote, and stick are also covered. Emptyhands and groundfighting are also very important aspects of the outer curriculum.

The inner elements develop into two areas, Classical Islamic Chivalry and Warrior Body Culture development. The Chivalry or Furusiya (futuwa), is a classical code of conduct and propriety that can be traced back to the beginnings of the Muslim community in Arabia over 1400 years ago. The Warrior Body Culture elements strive to develop command of human energy by understanding how the body develops force, harnesses it, and releases it. Silat Sharaf has gained a reputation worldwide as one of the most functional, simple and fluid systems of Silat available for study.

Silat Tarab, is a modern system of Street Combatives. The system is based on traditional Silat Fighting Arts of the Malay Archipelago, Ottoman Military Combatives, Personal Experience, and Research. Silat Tarab is the CORE COMBATIVES element of Silat Sharaf which is a larger curriculum of physical and academic Silat study.

The contents of the Silat Tarab training modules were designed over many years and took hours upon hours of designing and redesigning to create. Thus ensuring that students receive the best possible training in every class they attend. Training focuses on developing proficiency in using emptyhands, guns, knives, and groundfighting techniques to prevail in high stress combat environments.
