Sk8er Girl Avril Lavigne Collaborates on Manga Title for Del Rey

Pop singer Avril Lavigne has teamed up with Del Rey Manga, an imprint of Random House, to publish Make 5 Wishes, the company’s first American manga. The first volume of Make 5 Wishes will be released in April, shortly before Lavigne’s album, The Best Damn Thing, hits stores. The second volume will come out in July.
According to Del Rey Manga, the story follows “introverted teenager Hana [as she] stumbles upon a website that will change her life forever. After a demon grants her a series of wishes that go bad, Hana meets her hero Avril Lavigne.” The artist for Make 5 Wishes is Camilla D’Errico; the writer is Joshua Dysart.
“In the past few years, manga has grown exponentially in the United States,” said Betsy Mitchell, editor-in-chief of Del Rey Books. “For our very first original English-language manga, we’re very excited to be working with a person as versatile in her talent as Avril Lavigne.”
Grammy-nominated Lavigne, in addition to lending her likeness to the story, also helped in the creative process.
“I know that many of my fans read manga,” Lavigne said, “and I’m really excited to be involved in creating stories that I know they will enjoy.”
