These courses are taught at my school, $40 a quarter. Which do you reccomend for a beginner?

both

Judo guys will toss BJJ guys around at will but will get submitted on the mat

they both work different areas of jujutsu and have both been influenced by catch wrestling through the years

I am actually deciding on what to take also. I think I am going to go with BJJ for now because I already have a little wrestling experience for takedowns. I do want to learn some sweet throws though.

You also learn something vital in Judo, you learn how to get slammed yet take no damage because you get so good at breaking falls. BJJ's advanced sub game sounds good right now its too bad many schools don't get into leglocks though. I would really like to try Sambo but Im weary about the rules.

It all depends on what you wanna do. For the most well rounded game do both. I'm going to a karo parysian seminar for $75 and i dont use throws much.

nah i dont think judo has a good enough ground game for mma. most judo schools dont spend too much time in ne waza but its slowly changing. no leg locks or shoulder locks in judo. i think the kimura is actually illegal in judo.

How are Sambo rules different than BJJ or Judo? I don't know much about the art (Sambo) but am interested in how they do stuff.

BJJ is better but it does lack takedowns and wrestling imo, I love Judo but I am not going to bullshit, it has been modified too much to become an olympic sport

Do both if you can do it. If not then id say go with BJJ first, then Judo

well if it's just to train something I'd say judo, but for MMA go for BJJ no doubt.

The biggest thing is the teachers and their style. I know a guy who swears by Judo and claims old school Judo is superior to BJJ

When your first starting it doesn't really matter as both are good. I'm fortunate to have a place that I can train both. Once you you've been doing it for a year or so you will know which you prefer. When I roll I do techniques from both. For me I like BJJ just because I like the detail to the submissions. It reminds me of a good chess match as I'm planning two and three moves ahead. You will find that it's not as much about the styles as it is the training and the person performing the moves. I've seen great Judo guys destroy average BJJ guys and vice versa. It depends on how good you are at your chosen discipline.

judo= takedowns. bjj= subs. ya i know judo has subs to but bjj has a way better ground game than judo. so it depends on what you want do you want a solid enough ground game with the ability to get it to the ground or do you want the way better ground ability with not much a way to get it there. personaly i mix wrestling with bjj get the ability to scramble and get it to the mat and once i get there the ability to sub people. its all personal choice no one style is superior the fighter makes it a deadly weapon or a usless tool.
