Like Ive mentioned in a few other threads, I just bought a jump rope because I hear alot of fighters jump rope for cordination, footspeed and cardio. I started last night and I am in love and I feel like I discovered something even though boxers have been doing it forever.

I really cant stress enough how much fun and how much of a great cardio workout jumping rope is. I only went for about a total of 20 min or so spread out through the day and it absolutely smoked me.

I recommend starting out slow because it can get really addicting once you figure out your getting a good workout. You should also wear some shoes with good padding as it can cause alot of impact on your legs/feet.

I really wish I had discovered this sooner, like years ago.

Yeah I know, its seriulsy hard for me to stay motivated running because I have to change my clothes, step on big rocks that fuck up my knees and feet, hug the side of the road and dodge cars, look out for dogs and then have to shower again when I get back.

I love to run still but the jump rope is an awesome alternative plus its probably better for the short term high intensity type of endurance.

jumping rope is great. i do it when i box, and it's not like running where you can slack off and take baby steps. yuo have to actually push yourself. one can say that this is a better workout than even running (more complete)

it works your shoulders a lot, and your forearms, as well as your lower body: thighs and calves. plus, like ven said, it helps your footwork.

oh, and it tires the shit out of you. it's a good warm up and warm down (cool off) exercise. plus it's fun.

I just started jumping rope again as I'm slowly getting back into the shape I was in 3 years ago. It's funny how much my calves hurt the day after a rope jump but once I start jumping again the pain goes away... until I'm finished.

All in all one of the best workouts you can get (in my opinion) I also enjoy trail running in the summer and spring, but running in general sucks.

I use the speed jump rope for 15 minutes for the warm up. It's been a part of my routine forever.

I love jump roping but for some reason I can't do the double under thing where you jump high and the rop passes under twice before you hit the ground.

I was the same way when i first started, but you start to get the hang of it if you do it a few days in a row. At first i would just be trying to jump as high as possible to avoid the rope, but then i started getting the rythm down and just little hops was enough. Either way though, even if you are jumping as high as you can like i did, its still great exercise.

Maybe jump a bit higher? Or try to swing faster? Maybe it's just your rope, it it to light to swing it fast?

I like using the jump rope during circuit training. Don't have to run outside, jump stay where I am :)

I started jumping rope like a week ago and my footwork has increased greatly. It tires out your calves though, but other than that it's a great warm up do like 2-3 3:00 rounds and your set.

I think the rope itself is fine and I don't have any trouble swinging it fast. I think I just suck at it. I haven't jump roped in a while but I'm just going to keep practicing the double under

I haven't done it in years and should consider doing it again. As far as jumping higher I would think so.
