“If he doesn't show me the things in the gym that I need to see, I am going to have a long talk with him, and it may be time.” -- Freddie Roach

Jame Toney will undoubtedly be expedited into the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota New York, as soon as he hangs up the gloves. That's the big question though, when will he hang them up? During a recent post fight interview after his second loss to Heavyweight contender, Samuel Peter, it was evident that James Toney's speech was noticeably slurred, and during his fight against Peter it seemed as if his legs just wouldn't let him get out of the way like they used to. Toney's trainer (Freddie Roach), has a reputation of looking after his fighters, so when Fightnews presented this topic to him, he pulled no punches, "Yes it's definitely a concern. He had a long hard fight, and if he doesn't show me the things in the gym that I need to see, I am going to have a long talk with him, and it may be time."

It's refreshing to see a trainer who has his fighters health at best interest.
Roach is in boxing because it's his life & he loves it,there's no alterior or $$ oriented motives in his choices or judgements & for that he's a breath of fresh air.

Roach is a class act..Toney looked like crap most of the fight and needs to retire.

I don't know if its time for Toney to retire. IMO he schooled Peter in the first fight and got robbed, and Peter is one of the top HW guys out there. But I really don't see Toney being able to compete with a guy like Wlad Klitchko, so maybe it is time to hang em up. I'd love to see him go down to cruiserweight but obviously that isn't going to happen.

Toney clearly has some speech issues which have gotten increasingly worse over the last few years, its time to hang them up.

Even if Freddy advises Toney to retire I doubt he would,he'll just move on to another trainer.
I personally believe Toney appeared overtrained & weak against Peter, whether this can be attested to Billy Blanks training regime or father time remains to be seen.
However I do think that Toney is or has never been an elite HW.

Toney used to be one of my favorite boxers but his last fight was just sad.
