In the coming days, WBC super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya will announce a new trainer for his May 5 superfight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd's dad, Floyd Mayweather Sr., had been Oscar's trainer for an eight-fight run starting in 2001, but his demand for $2 million to train Oscar to beat his son has been deemed excessive. "Oscar has always been very fair in what he pays to a trainer. But $2 million is way beyond what any trainer is ever paid," Golden Boy President Richard Schaefer told USA Today. Mayweather Sr., reportedly claimed he was offered a $500,000 guarantee with a $500,000 bonus if De La Hoya was victorious, an offer the elder Mayweather termed "insulting."
