» King Mo: "My Slowest Is Faster Than Whitehead's Fastest"
Nov 29, 2009 - 3:54 AM - by snakerattle79
http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2009/11/...heads-fastest/

FiveOuncesofPain: So what made you sign with Strikeforce. I know the UFC kind of had you on their radar as well, but what made you make the ultimate decision to take the road you did?

King Mo: I like to stay busy and I can stay busier with Strikeforce. Plus they had that open contract. It just made more business sense to me because if you’re fighting with the UFC, you’re fighting three times a year, you know, if that. If you’re lucky.

FiveOuncesofPain: And this way I guess you could still fight in Japan. Are you still planning on fighting for Sengoku again at all in the future?

King Mo: Yeah, I’m going to fight somewhere in Japan, whether it’s Sengoku or DREAM. I just want to stay busy because I need fights. I’m only 5-0, but a lot of people look at me like I’m a veteran or something (laughs). You know what I’m saying? I’ve only had five fights.

FiveOuncesofPain: I know man, it’s only really been about a year since you’ve even been training. When was your first fight with Travis Wiuff? It was in September right?

King Mo: September 30th was my first fight, so it’s been about a year and two months.

FiveOuncesofPain: So what are your thoughts on Mike Whitehead and what he’s going to bring to the table on December 19th?

King Mo: He’s solid. He’s a solid veteran, He’s solid pretty much everywhere and doesn’t make many mistakes. He used to wrestle at heavyweight back in college. I was wrestling freestyle at the time so I didn’t know him, but I knew of him.

FiveOuncesofPain: Yeah for sure. That’s the thing with Mike; He’s been around for a while, and he’s fought a bunch of tough dudes, but it doesn’t seem like he’s really spectacular in any single... [Read More]
» Every time Frank Mir talks he makes himself seem more like a douche
Nov 28, 2009 - 5:34 PM - by CreatureCore
http://www.cagereport.net/Frank-Mir-...mpetition.html
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir recently spoke to CageReport as he gets ready to take on Cheick Kongo at UFC 107 in December. Mir coming off a loss to current UFC champion Brock Lesnar remains adamant that he will get his chance to avenge the loss despite the champion currently out indefinitely due to continued health problems.

"I've never wanted a rematch this bad before and I'm willing to go through whoever they put in front of me in order to get it." said Mir "I hope [Brock] recovers and is able to defend his title because I want to be the one to take it from him, and next time if I manage to grab a hold of a limb I won't let go until I feel something break, to maim him would be satisfying."

Mir came into the bout against Lesnar back at UFC 100 weighing much less than usual, tipping the scales at 240lbs whilst Lesnar weighed in significantly larger at 265lbs, according to Mir this substantial weight difference played a big role in the fight.

"I think I gave up too much weight last time and that was one of the main reasons I had problems on the ground. But I'm looking to correct that problem so I've been going through a new training regime to help add some muscle, it's been going great so far and I think people will see the effects of it in my next fight."

Whilst Kongo is renowned for his striking abilities, Mir is confident that he could contend with the hard hitting French striker on the feet and views this as a great opportunity to showcase some striking abilities of his own.

"I mean I wasn't supposed to beat Nogueira standing and look what happened there. I'm confident that I can strike with Cheick [Kongo] and make it competitive, my punches are a lot quicker than... [Read More]

Houston Alexander Confirms Bout With Kimbo Slice At TUF 10 Finale
By Richa Mitchell | November 27, 2009

While it was expected, UFC heavyweight Houston Alexander confirmed that he will be facing The Ultimate Fighter 10 contestant Kimbo Slice on Dec. 5th in Las Vegas.
"Yeah, Kevin Ferguson. On December 5th,” Alexander said on 92.3 FM Todd N Tyler's.

“The fight was presented to us and we didn't even hesitate.”

Both fighters have similar fighting styles, as both are well known for their strong standup and less than stellar ground game.

“I'm practicing boxing, takedown defense, it's just crazy,” he said. “I plan to peak at the time of the fight and work out the morning of the fight to get my blood flowing.”

Both fighters have something to prove, as Slice is seeking a win in his first UFC appearance, and it’s been over 2 years since Alexander last celebrated a victory in the UFC. Alexander says he’s excited for the challenge.

“Before a fight, I don't get nervous, I get anxious. I listen to Rage Against the Machine. I just want to get in there and start fighting. I'm really excited."

The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale airs December 5th on Spike TV.

Well, This has been a rumor for some time, I guess that means Kimbo losses his next fight on the show or does not get back in despite what they are making it look like.
» Rogers' Head Trainer Mike Reilly Talks "Fedor vs Rogers"
Nov 27, 2009 - 12:04 PM - by snakerattle79
http://www.punchdrunkgamer.com/mma/mma-access

PDG: From a trainer’s standpoint what positives and negatives did you take from Brett’s second round knockout loss to Fedor Emelianenko?

Mike Reilly: I think that universally people were very impressed with what Brett was able to do in the first round. The first round went basically the way that we thought it would go with the exception being that we were hoping to see more right hands thrown by Brett. After the fight Brett said the same thing and said that he couldn't see the openings to throw his right hand. I think he was a little too tentative and concerned about letting his hands go. As far as the rest of the first round went I think that we controlled the action especially on the feet where Brett was able to land a very good shot that drew an awful lot of blood from Fedor’s face. Brett controlled the action up against the fence which we worked on in training and knew that he could do and I believe that the way he handled himself on the ground was a surprise to everybody except for us.

PDG: You mentioned that before; that even though none of Brett’s fights had gone to the ground you guys had been working on his ground game extensively.

Mike Reilly: That is my background and is really the base for a lot of the things that we do during training. Brett has very good round skills, he is extremely difficult to submit and so we weren't surprised at all about how Brett performed on the ground during the first round. We knew that Fedor’s best option was to stay in the half guard because if he made any effort to gain the full mount he would have been reversed. Brett did a good job getting back to the guard, reversing and then landing a couple of good shots. I think part of the problem in this fight was that our game plan consisted more of the standup game and maybe we should have... [Read More]
» Ortiz vs Griffin Rematch Sells Only 62% Of Tickets
Nov 26, 2009 - 1:07 PM - by snakerattle79
http://www.fightline.com/news/mma/20...-2/index.shtml

Even though “UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2? pulled in a cool $3,003,250 at the gate, the event only sold 6,631 of the available 10,762 tickets. Obviously, these were the after effects of losing its original main event only a month prior to the event.

The UFC comped 3,898 tickets while 223 additional tickets went unsold.

It’ll be interesting to see how the pay-per-view buys do as Ortiz is normally a big draw for the promotion.

Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz in a re-match of their bout at UFC 59 which Ortiz won by splt decision, prompting talks of a rubber match between the two former light heavyweight champions.

A third fight would probably need to be chaperoned by a bigger fight to make the event, so we’ll see if the UFC wants to put together Ortiz vs. Griffin for a third time.
» Not only does Tito have to fight his opponent and the UFC...hes now fighting the NSAC
Nov 26, 2009 - 11:21 AM - by Tito-Fan
Not only does he have to worry about fighting his opponent, his injuries and the corrupt UFC regime...he also has to fight the NSAC that wont give him a fucking just or fair decision.

Tito's back baby. Rob him all you like, we the fans are watching and can see the unstoppable performances for ourselves.
